Website Update 2.3.2. As we have mentioned in previous website update articles, we are working behind the scenes on another large project. This project which remains shrouded in mystery is actually taking us much longer than expected, and may actually be another few months unfortunately.
Fan Made Tiffany Van Soest Highlight Reel. It’s no secret that Tiffany Van Soest could just be a future Muay Thai legend in the making.
A great way to gain insight into Scott Hirano’s creative direction and how he gets the photos he does is to take a look at his inspiration. His photojournalistic style is inspired by the likes of: James Nachtwey, Eugene Richards, Nina Berman, and especially one of his favorites W. Eugene Smith. He feels that their secret is to invest a lot of time into their subjects, which in turn creates images that are way too real.
This is our second instalment of our feature called “Behind the Lens: The Unsung Heroes” – in which we celebrate some of the best photographers within the fight industry. Many of these guys and girls help to accelerate the growth of the female fighting industry, and their work and effort often go un-praised.
Monthly Most Viewed – June 2014. Here is this month’s instalment of our “Monthly Most Viewed” article, in which we take a look at the top ten most viewed female fighter profiles in the Awakening fighter register, from the previous month.
Ruthie Wright retires. As the title of the article suggests, Ruthie Wright today announced her retirement from fighting. Earlier this month we featured Ruthie in a spotlight article, in which we talked about her interesting life and achievements.
Due to working behind the scenes on another large project that we feel will bring an exciting new element to the website in the future, there isn’t much to report for website update 2.3.1.
Julie Kitchen Blooper Reel. We were going through our archives and rediscovered an amusing clip of The Queen of Muay Thai, Julie Kitchen. We thought you’d like to see it, as this clip proves that this living legend is human after all!
Spotlight: Ruthie Wright. Competitive. Strong. Driven. All of these qualities can be used to describe Cornish athlete Ruthie Wright, lovingly known as “The Pink Machine”
In part one we introduced you to incredible French photographer Thomas Weber. We specifically split this article in two so we could shoehorn in more of his great photos for you. In this part we’ll discuss his thoughts on female fighters, and briefly mention his other subject matter.
You may recall that last month we introduced this new feature called “Behind the Lens: The Unsung Heroes” – a celebration and tip of the hat to some of the best photographers in the fight industry. For it is these guys and girls that help to accelerate the growth of female fighting, and they often go unnoticed as people. Our first photographer that we’ll be taking a look at is Thomas Weber.
We have just passed our two year anniversary! We wanted to create a quick montage for, by way of celebrating the last two years and some of the athletes we’ve worked with. What you see in the video is just a very tiny portion of what we’ve been up to, but some of our favorite work.
In yesterday’s website update of 2.3 we launched a new section of the Awakening website. This section is called Awakepedia. We worked pretty solidly on it last month which might help explain why our website was light on articles! The launch of Awakepedia.

4000th Profile added. That’s right, we’ve just added our 4000th Awakening Profile! We couldn’t be happier to announce this fact. To see the progression of our global female martial artists register over the last few months has been great, and the general reception and response from the community has been phenomenal.

Website Update 2.2. Today we updated to website 2.2. We have one main change this month, listed under “Home Page”. We have some exciting big changes come in June and July, and we have been working on these behind the scenes.
