Amber Brown is an MMA fighter from New Mexico, USA. Her current record is 6-1-0 and she’s been on a winning streak since 2013. She’s a lady that really needs no introduction because you the community voted her the ‘Fan Favourite Atomweight of the Year’ in the Awakening WMMA Awards! We caught up with Amber to find out her thoughts on your vote and took the opportunity to ask her a few more questions.

Awakening: Hi Amber, and thanks so much for taking some time to answer some questions!

Amber: Hello, and thanks so much for taking the time to interview me.

Awakening: Congratulations on winning the ‘Fan Favourite Atomweight of the Year’ Award in the 2015 Awakening WMMA Awards. What are your thoughts on being recognized by the Awakening fight community in such a way?

Amber: I really appreciate all of the love and support from the fans, voting me atomweight of the year!

Awakening: We owe you another congratulations as well, as you’ve already started off the year great with the first round submission over Shino VanHoose back at Invicta FC15! How does it feel to begin 2016 with such a dominating start?

Amber: It feels amazing to get in there and start off the year with such a great win.

Awakening: In 2015 Invicta FC crowned Ayaka Hamasaki the new Atomweight Champion, and you were very vocal about your desire for a title fight – so we’re excited for you that this fight is around the corner. Coming off yet another win, what are your thoughts on this title challenge for the Invicta belt? How do you see that fight going?

Amber: I am so grateful to be getting the shot at the title. Much respect to Ayaka, but she has what's mine, and I am going to do whatever it takes to bring that belt home.

Awakening: Are there any other opponents or fights you’re interested in making?

Amber: Once I get that belt, I want whoever thinks they can come take it. I want to dominate the whole division

Awakening: As your career continues to rise, how have you found balancing your time in your fighter career to being a mother of a young daughter?

Amber: Balancing my life as a fighter and a mother as well as a wife, can be overwhelming at times but I am thankful that they are so supportive, my husband and daughter help out so much, it makes it easier.

Awakening: Can you talk us through your average day?

Amber: My days are crazy! I wake up early, get my daughter off to school, then head to the gym for a good 3-4 hours. We leave to go eat some lunch and chill out for a bit until school is out, then head back to the gym for another good 3-4 hours. Come home, eat dinner, shower, and get ready to do it all again the next day.

Awakening: You began training MMA a relatively short time ago in 2012, and have rocketed to being one of the top ranked Atomweights in the world. What do you attribute your success to?

Amber: I have come a long way since 2012. It is you, yourself getting in there to fight, but I couldn't do it without the help from all my coaches, brothers and sisters at FITNHB, and my husband

Awakening: …and where do you hope to be in a few years’ time as an athlete? Do you have goals beyond the Invicta title?

Amber: I just want to get in there and be a dominant atomweight, they've never had a dominant champion at that weight, that's what I plan to do.

Awakening: What advice would you give to other women starting out in their martial arts journey?

Amber: Advice I would give to other women would be ALWAYS work hard, because it definitely pays off, and never give up! You never know what you are truly capable of if you don't try. So just go for it! Always believe in yourself, no matter who else does or doesn't.

Awakening: Great advice! Thanks again for taking the time to chat to us Amber! We look forward to seeing you in the cage again on March 11th at Invicta FC16, we wish you the best of luck!
